Microfiltration processes are suitable for filtration particles larger than pore size of membranes. For example algae, suspended solid particles, some kind of bacteria. The only practical measure of a membranes separation capability is the function measurement – challenge test. In this method, the permeability of selected particles is measured under controlled conditions.
Medium containing microorganisms (oocyst of Cryptosporidium, E.coli) is filtering through microfiltration membranes. Permeate and feed are microbiologically analyzated. This testing method is regularly used in our own lab. For more accurate and objective results are our membranes tested in an accredited independent lab.
