Fish Farming - BusseMT

Modern biomembrane technology makes aquaculture environmentally friendly and ensures sewage free fish production in recirculation systems.

The consumption of fish and shellfish is on the rise worldwide, leading to shrinking stocks in oceans, lakes, and rivers. To meet growing demand in the future, more fish will be raised on large fish farms, in so-called aquaculture. Natural stocks could be conserved, for thanks to modern biotechnology initiated by the Federal Environment Agency (UBA), fish production in aquaculture can also be environmentally compatible and relieve the strain on the world’s bodies of water. The sewage from recirculating systems is filtered through very fine biomembranes. Bacteria, viruses, residue from food additives and treatments are removed, leaving virtually no sewage. This would make operation of aquaculture facilities in arid regions possible as well. A few German manufacturers are already supplying membrane filtration in Europe and in Asia as export technology.
